चाँदनी तथा मन का स्वभाव

चाँदनी कितनी मनोरम, कितनी रम्य तथा शांतिदायक होती है। चाँदनी सूर्य की रौशनी से कितनी अलग लगती है। एक प्रखर तो एक शांत। लेकिन सही मायने में चाँदनी सूर्य की रौशनी हीं तो है। बल्कि चाँद सूर्य की रौशनी को हीं पहुँचाने का माध्यम है। अंतर ये है कि दिन में चाँदनी का पता नहीं चलता है। चाँद का अलग अस्तित्व है लेकिन चाँदनी को सूर्य और पृथ्वी से अलग करके नहीं देखा जा सकता है। 

चाँदनी कृष्ण-पक्ष और शुक्ल-पक्ष में बँटी है। लेकिन चाँदनी शुक्लपक्ष एकादशी से कृष्णपक्ष पंचमी तक सतोगुणी, कृष्णपक्ष एकादशी से शुक्लपक्ष पंचमी तक तमोगुणी और कृष्ण षष्ठी से कृष्णपक्ष दशमी तथा शुक्लपक्ष षष्ठी से शुक्लपक्ष दशमी तक रजोगुणी होती है। सतोगुणी में मजबूत, रजोगुणी में मध्यम और तमोगुणी में कमजोर होती है। जब चंद्रमा सतोगुणी रहता है तो वह स्थिर होता है और व्यक्ति का मन दृढ़+स्थिर तथा प्रसन्न रहता है। चंद्रमा जब रजोगुणी होता है तो वह द्विस्वभावी होता है। मन में कर्म का उत्साह तो रहता है पर मन में लालसा रहती है। चंद्रमा जब तमोगुणी रहता है तो मन टिक नहीं पाता है। चंचल रहता है। मन में भय का संचार होता है। खुद के प्रति संशय रहता है। व्यक्ति के सूर्य की स्थिति से उसकी स्थिति इस काल में निर्धारित होती है।    

सूर्य, चाँदनी तथा छठ

जैसा जानते हैं चंद्रमा का प्रकाश सूर्य का हीं श्वेत प्रकाश है। सूर्य को दशम में बली क्यों कहते हैं? क्यों यह राजयोग देता है। क्योंकि इस स्थिति में वह श्वेत रूप होता है। सबसे ज्यादा प्रकाशमान होता है। इसलिए यह तेजोमय होता है। यह ज्योतिष का महत्वेपूर्ण रहस्य है। जिस तरह सूर्योपासना महत्वपूर्ण है। उसी तरह चाँदनी की उपासना भी महत्वपूर्ण है और दूसरे रूप में वह भी सूर्योपासना हीं है। यही कारण है छठ में शाम के अरग से सुबह के अरग का रिवाज है। सूर्य के प्रकाश के साथ चाँदनी को लेना भी वांछित है। 

ग्रह स्थिति तथा युग

चंद्रमा तथा बृहस्पति मिलकर सतयुग का निर्माण करते हैं। सूर्य तथा बृहस्पति मिलकर त्रेता का निर्माण करते हैं। शुक्र+बुध मिलकर द्वापर का निर्माण करते हैं। सूर्य (लाल) + मंगल तथा शनि मिलकर कलियुग का निर्माण करते हैं। मंगल+शनि से कलिकाल की स्थिति बनती है। सूर्य लाल होकर विपरीत परिस्थिति में डाल, जप+पूजा पाठ सत्संग से इसे पुण्यदायक बनाता है।

सूर्य आत्मा, चंद्रमा मन तथा बृहस्पति जीव स्वरूप है। शुक्र+बुध कला तथा व्यवसाय है। सतयुग तथा द्वापर सोम प्रधान है जबकि त्रेता और कलियुग अग्निगर्भा है। यह वेदोक्त अग्नि-सोम व्यवस्था है।

Moonlight and the Nature of the Mind

Moonlight is enchanting, serene, and soothing. It feels entirely different from sunlight—one is bright and intense, the other calm and gentle. Yet, in truth, moonlight is sunlight. The Moon merely acts as a medium, reflecting the Sun’s rays. The difference lies in perception: during the day, moonlight is not visible. The Moon has its own existence, but it cannot be considered separate from the Sun and Earth.

Moonlight varies with the lunar phases: Shukla Paksha (waxing) and Krishna Paksha (waning). It manifests three qualities (Gunas):

• Sattvic (pure) – from Shukla Ekadashi to Krishna Panchami

• Rajasic (active) – from Krishna Shashthi to Krishna Dashami and from Shukla Shashthi to Shukla Dashami

• Tamasic (inert) – from Krishna Ekadashi to Shukla Panchami

Its strength is proportional to its nature: Sattvic is strong, Rajasic is moderate, and Tamasic is weak.

• When the Moon is Sattvic, it is stable; the mind is calm, steady, and joyful.

• When Rajasic, the mind is dual-natured—energetic but restless, filled with desire.

• When Tamasic, the mind is unsettled, fearful, and doubtful.

The influence of the Moon is also determined by the position of the Sun at that time.

Sun, Moonlight, and Chhath Festival

Moonlight is essentially the Sun’s reflected white light. The Sun is called “Bali in Dasham” in astrology because it radiates maximum light and bestows Rajyoga (royal fortune). It is radiant, luminous, and full of energy. Just as Sun worship is significant, the worship of moonlight is equally important—it is another form of Sun worship. This explains the ritual of Chhath, from evening Arghya to morning Arghya, where offerings are made with both sunlight and moonlight.

Planetary Positions and Yugas (Ages)

The combination of planets determines the cosmic ages:

• Moon + Jupiter → Satya Yuga

• Sun + Jupiter → Treta Yuga

• Venus + Mercury → Dvapara Yuga

• Sun (red) + Mars + Saturn → Kali Yuga

In Kali Yuga, the conjunction of Mars and Saturn represents adversity, but chanting, worship, and spiritual practices with Sun’s energy can make it auspicious.

• Sun represents the soul,

• Moon represents the mind,

• Jupiter represents the essence of life,

• Venus + Mercury represent art and profession.

Satya Yuga and Dvapara are Moon-dominant, while Treta and Kali Yuga are fire-dominant. This reflects the Vedic Soma-Fire system, where cosmic energy aligns with planetary influence.
